This team of professionals supports internal IS assets of the State Patrol as well as software made available to law enforcement across Wisconsin. Units within the Public Safety Technology Service Section include the following:
"Badger" TraCS Unit (BTU) - Members of this unit develop and maintain a suite of more than 20 forms for use by all Wisconsin law enforcement agencies through the Traffic and Criminal Software (TraCS), a data collection tool. Forms created and supported by the unit include, but are not limited to, the DT4000 Crash Report, the Uniform Traffic Citation, the Natural Resources Citation, the Non-Traffic Citation, the Pursuit, the Incident, the Use of Force and Arrest-Related Death (UFAD), the Warning form, and the Driver Condition Report. Beyond form development and maintenance, unit members support a hosted TraCS environment for over 400 outside agencies. The technical expertise of the unit is also applied in its work with other technical areas in assuring the reliable and secure transmission of TraCS data to its various endpoints across the state and beyond. The unit also hosts an annual Statewide TraCS Users Conference training event for the over 550 agencies that use TraCS.

Crash Records Unit (CRU) - Unit members serve as the data stewards for Wisconsin DT4000 motor vehicle crash data as well as performing fatal crash reporting through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) . This unit also provides front-line support for law enforcement users and the public for a host of crash data-related collection systems, including the WisDOT's Driver Report of Crash (DROC) and Insurance Reporting on Crash (IROC) web applications. Members work closely with the UW TOPS Lab and the TraCS Unit on crash data collection and crash data improvement efforts. Crash data is then made available to the public and to traffic safety entities through various means, including the UW TOPS Lab's WisTransPortal System and Community Maps.

Enforcement Technology Unit (ETU) - Members of this unit are sworn law enforcement officers who, in addition to using various law enforcement technologies in the field, serve as liaisons between the section's technical areas and law enforcement users. Unit members are involved in technology evaluations and field testing of new products as well as in providing first line technical support for law enforcement users. Members also provide tailored training and documentation for internal and external law enforcement users and assist in the administration of Mobile Architecture for Communications Handling (MACH), the WisDOT's police pursuit data collection process (through TraCS) and other hardware and software.

Production Support Unit (PSU) - Members of this unit combine with their WisDOT partners and the division's Network Services Unit (BNEDI) to provide IT hardware and software support for DSP users. In addition, the unit supports Mobile Architecture for Communications Handling (MACH) software, which serves as the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) software for the division. MACH is also supported and made available for external agencies as an automatic vehicle location (AVL), TIME system query portal, and secure communications tool for public safety agencies across the state.
