TOPICS OF INSTRUCTION:
This 32-hour course, taught by State Patrol Speed Equipment experts, prepares instructor candidates for instructing RADAR and LASER to their department personnel.
- Teaches LESB certified police officers how to instruct students in the operation of traffic RADAR and LASER.
- Students will learn how to guide the new RADAR and LASER operator in the understanding of both RADAR and LASER function.
- Identify potential errors or anomalies and the technological advancement of speed equipment.
- Candidates learn how to prepare the new operator for courtroom testimony.
- Candidates learn how to demonstrate operational range and importance of stationary and moving speed estimates.
- Identify anomalies and potential user error, and officer safety considerations in areas of set up and operation.
PREREQUISITES:
- Current LESB certified Law Enforcement Officer.
- Successful completion of RADAR Operator Course.
- Instructor development NOT required.
ITEMS TO BRING:
No special items to bring. Bringing a department owned RADAR or LASER is NOT required.
