This course will provide law enforcement officers with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully use a department issued LASER.

 
Students will receive classroom and practical hands-on training in the use of hand-held LASER speed detection devices.

OBJECTIVES: 

• ​​Students will explore how speed enforcement correlates with reduced crashes and their severity.
• Students will understand the history and development of LASER light and the LASER theory.
• Students will be able to explain how a LASER unit determines the speed of a vehicle.
• Students will be able to describe the parts of the LASER.
• Students will be able to set up, test and read the LASER unit.
• Students will have knowledge of the potential health risks of a LASER unit.
• Students will explore the legal aspects of LASER and have knowledge of courtroom testimony.​
  

PREREQUISITES:​

• Students must be Law Enforcement Certified.  All other training equipment is provided by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
