FORENSIC MAPPING / TRIMBLE TOTAL STATIONS

OBJECTIVES:

The goal of this course is to familiarize the student with forensic mapping equipment.  This course consists of classroom learning and practical exercises.  The student will spend several hours setting up, mapping, and traversing with their equipment.  The data will then be introduced to a Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) program where results can be observed and adjustments to the students mapping techniques can be made.

TOPICS OF INSTRUCTION INCLUDE:

  • Fundamentals of Forensic Mapping w/ Trimble Total Stations
  • Total Station Nomenclature and the Mathematics of Coordinate Geometry
  • Practical Exercises – Crash and Crime Scene Scenarios
  • Integration of Taped and Total Station Measurements
  • Introduction to Computer Aided Drawing

PREREQUISITES:

Successful completion of Technical Crash Investigation I offered (​June 24, 2024 to
June 28, 2024)

ITEMS TO BRING:

  • Computer or Notebook for notetaking
  • 32gb jump drive for transferring data
  • If your agency has its own Trimble equipment, it is recommended to bring and utilize it for the duration of this course. 
  • If your agency uses any specific CAD program (Crash Zone, AutoCAD, Reveal, EdgeFX, FARO Zone, Rhino, etc..) please bring that software with to utilize when importing data.
